Who is Akamai?
Akamai Technologies is a company that provides security, cloud computing and delivery solutions. Its delivery solutions are mainly for web and mobile performance and for delivering media such as video streaming and software downloads. It was incorporated in Delaware in 1998, and its shares trade on the Nasdaq under the symbol AKAM.
Akamai's annual report for 2025, filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, says it has developed and provided solutions since 1998 for global enterprises to build, secure and accelerate their applications and digital experiences.
The report says its infrastructure included points of presence in more than 130 countries and about 700 cities at the end of 2025. It says Akamai is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and lists three core offerings: security, cloud computing and delivery.
