How to control an AI agent at work, and where each control stops

On 4 November we read what OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft and AWS document about an agent's identity, access, spending, stopping and logs, and where each says its own control stops.

For whoever sets an agent’s access, spending and logs

In short

  • Anthropic's Managed Agents documentation says an interrupt stops the model response immediately, a running tool call can complete first, and nothing already done or sent is undone.
  • Microsoft's Copilot Credits page says monthly limits per Copilot Studio agent aren't applied instantly and an agent's limit doesn't stop the agent flows it calls.
  • AWS's documentation says CloudTrail data events for AgentCore Gateway are not captured by default, must be explicitly enabled and incur additional charges.

notis drafts its stories with Claude, which is made by Anthropic, one of the five companies whose controls it compares.

On 4 November we opened the agent documentation of OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft and AWS. We looked for five controls: whose identity an agent uses, what it can touch, what it may spend, how to stop it and what is logged. Each platform's pages describe all five.

On each platform we also found a page that states where its own control stops. Anthropic's agent documentation says: "An interrupt does not undo what the agent already did or sent." 1Source 1Secure your Managed Agents deployment · Anthropic · checked 4 Nov 2026 Google's billing documentation says "the enforcement of spend caps isn't instant and any cost overages are billed as normal". 2Source 2Manage spend cap budgets, Cloud Billing · Google · checked 4 Nov 2026 Microsoft says audit logs for its Copilot Studio agents in Purview's Audit solution leave out the full text of a conversation and hold "only the transcript thread ID", and that Copilot Studio saves the transcript separately, where it can be seen from the logged event in the DSPM for AI solution. 3Source 3View Copilot Studio audit logs in Purview · Microsoft · checked 4 Nov 2026

What it means for you · our view

The stop and the spend limit, as these pages describe them, act on an agent that is already running, and their stated gaps are in timing and in what is left running. Access and logging are set before the work starts: Anthropic's Activity Feed page says recording is not retroactive, and several documented defaults leave networking or model access open, actions unreviewed, or content out of the logs. Set the agent's network and tool access explicitly and switch on the logging you need before its first run. Then give it a low spending limit in a trial run, stop it once mid-task, and read what the logs kept before you widen its access.
