Anthropic halves the Sonnet 5.5 cache-read price to $0.10 per million tokens
Anthropic says the cut starts on 7 October and lowers the cost of most agentic work on Sonnet 5.5 by around 20%; it also says monthly API credits for Max and Team plans roll out this week.
Anthropic said on 7 October 2026 that cache reads on Claude Sonnet 5.5 now cost $0.10 per million tokens, rather than $0.20, a 50% cut. Anthropic says cache reads make up a large share of token consumption, so the cut lowers the cost of Sonnet 5.5 on most agentic tasks by around 20%. Cache writes on Sonnet 5.5 stay at $2.50 per million tokens on Anthropic's table.
Anthropic also said it would roll out a monthly API credit to Max and Team subscribers this week, for use on the Claude Platform with any model. It gave $100 a month for Max 5x, $200 for Max 20x and up to $500, pooled across users, for Team. That part is Anthropic's statement of what it will do.
