Key points

  1. Asked about Replit's OpenAI partnership and a Free Mode using Luna, Masad said he thinks "GPT is better now" (16:31).
  2. Masad said the decision was based on cost, partnership and performance, and that OpenAI was "a better partner for now" (16:47).
  3. He said enterprise was about 2% of Replit's revenue last year and about 15% this year, and that more than 50% of this year's revenue is B2B (17:25).

What happened

Asked about Replit's OpenAI partnership and its Free Mode, Masad said "GPT is better now" and pointed to Replit's internal benchmark, Vibe Bench, and said Replit publishes a public benchmark as well. He said the decision was based on cost, partnership and performance, and that OpenAI was "a better partner for now". The captions render the OpenAI models he named as "Solan Astra".

What Replit's own pages say is narrower. Its Free Mode post of 18 August 2026 says Free Mode is powered by OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Luna. Its model selector page says that when the product shows Auto, Replit routes each request to a model, and it does not name a default model.

The same page lists OpenAI and Anthropic models side by side in Power Mode and Max Mode, and says each account's selector is the source of truth. The page shows no date.

On the same stage Masad said enterprise contracts are about 15% of Replit's revenue this year, against about 2% last year, and that more than 50% of revenue is business-to-business. These are his figures; Replit says it is not yet sharing ARR.

What it means for you

Our view

Masad's comments are one executive's view, and he points to Replit's own benchmark and says Replit also publishes a public benchmark.

Replit's pages give a narrower picture: its Free Mode post of 18 August 2026 says Free Mode is powered by GPT-5.6 Luna, and its model selector lists both OpenAI and Anthropic models in Power Mode and Max Mode.

If you use Replit, open your own account's model selector and see which models it offers you, since Replit says that list is the source of truth for your account.

It adds no new facts.
