What happened

Anthropic said on 6 October 2026 that Claude for Google Workspace is in public beta on all paid Claude plans. It adds Claude to Google Docs, Sheets and Slides as a sidebar that can read the open file, see what is selected and change it.

In Docs, Anthropic says Claude can fix a sentence in place or propose larger rewrites as suggestion cards. In Sheets it can write formulas, build pivot tables and native charts, add tabs, and pull a range into Python and write the results back. In Slides it can build slides from the deck's own layouts and flag elements that overlap or run off the slide.

By default Claude asks for approval before each change; an Accept all edits mode applies changes without stopping. Anthropic also released Google Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors, also in beta, so Claude can create and edit Google files from a chat.

On Enterprise plans, the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys and OpenTelemetry audit export apply to the add-on. It is installed from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

Our view

This is Anthropic's own description of a beta, so test it on files that do not matter before relying on it. The approval card keeps a person in the loop by default, and Accept all edits removes that check, so it is worth deciding as a team policy instead of leaving it to each user.

Anthropic says Enterprise audit controls apply to the add-on, and it also released Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors in beta. Before rollout, ask your Google Workspace admin who may install from the Marketplace, and ask Anthropic what the audit export records for edits made in Accept all edits mode.
