Google says anyone can now check a file for a watermark from Google or partners including OpenAI, NVIDIA and Kakao, with Apple to follow.
Check our sources · 6 facts from 1 sourceGoogle DeepMind said on 7 October 2026 that the SynthID Detector, introduced last year in an early version for media professionals, is now available to everyone globally in English. It lets anyone check whether an image, video or audio file was made with AI from Google or its partners, which Google lists as OpenAI, NVIDIA and Kakao, and soon Apple.
Google says it has watermarked over 180 billion images and videos and 240,000 years of audio with SynthID since launching it in 2023. It says the detector joins built-in verification in Search, the Gemini app and Chrome, which regularly handle over 1 million requests daily.
