Matt Garman, chief executive of Amazon Web Services, wrote a post published on 2 October 2026 on Amazon's news site about its data centres.

It says "We no longer use nondisclosure agreements with the government agencies we work with on our projects." The post says Amazon will host open houses in communities where it operates and share its plans as early as possible.

It announces a community investment framework called Built Together, under which Amazon "will add more than $1 billion over the next five years". The post says "there are over 100 data center moratoriums being considered across the country".

These figures and the claim that direct data centre water use is about 0.5% of total U.S. direct industrial water use are Amazon's own.
