Meta releases open-weight Muse Spark Open under its own licence

  • Meta says Muse Spark Open has 816 billion parameters, activates 42 billion per token and has a context window of one million tokens.
  • Under the Muse Model License, Model as a Service providers above 20 million US dollars in gross revenue over any consecutive 12 months must sign a separate agreement.
  • Meta's own table scores it 39 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, below GLM 5.3 (45) and Kimi K3 (44), and 89.2 on MCP-Atlas, above both (84.2, 82.3).

Meta released Muse Spark Open on 15 October 2026. It has 816 billion parameters in total and activates 42 billion per token, with a context window of one million tokens. It is a mixture-of-experts model with 256 experts per layer, of which 8 are used for each token. It takes text, images, video and audio as input and returns text. The licence is the Muse Model License. It allows use, modification, fine-tuning and distribution, requires products built on it to display "Built with Muse Spark Open", and requires a separate agreement with Meta for Model-as-a-Service offerings once the provider's aggregate gross revenue exceeds 20 million US dollars in any 12 months. Internal use and research are excluded from that condition. Meta's model card compares it with GLM 5.3 and Kimi K3: it scores 39 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index against 45 and 44, and 76.4 on Terminal-Bench 2.1 against 83.9 and 85.0, but 89.2 on MCP-Atlas against 84.2 and 82.3. The BF16 checkpoint runs across four nodes of eight H200 GPUs; the NVFP4 version serves on four Blackwell Ultra GPUs or eight H200s. Meta's post also describes serving it on two Mac Studios with M5 Ultra and 512GB of unified memory.

What it means for you Our view

The benchmark figures come from Meta's own model card table, so treat the comparison as a vendor claim until an independent evaluation repeats it. On that table the model trails GLM 5.3 and Kimi K3 on the Intelligence Index and Terminal-Bench 2.1 and leads on MCP-Atlas, which points to testing the measure closest to your workload. The licence matters as much as the weights. Internal use and research sit outside the Model as a Service condition, but a team that offers access through an API should read the revenue threshold and the display requirement before building on it. Ask your legal team whether your planned use counts as Model as a Service, and run your own test set before any switch.

Anthropic onboards METR staff and cannot veto what they publish

  • Anthropic says it has onboarded six METR employees with company hardware and office space.
  • Anthropic says METR will publish its findings and that Anthropic cannot veto publication, but can require redaction of information in narrow categories.
  • Anthropic says SecureBio is reviewing the chemical and biological weapons chapter of its August Risk Report, and that it is developing three tiers of access for evaluators.

Anthropic published an update on independent evaluators on 15 October 2026. It says it has onboarded six METR employees with company hardware, office space and access to internal tools, roughly on par with its own risk assessment teams. METR will publish its findings; Anthropic can require redaction of narrow categories of information but cannot veto publication. SecureBio is reviewing the chemical and biological weapons chapter of Anthropic's August Risk Report. Anthropic says it is developing three tiers of access for evaluators and is working toward a partnership with Accenture and Faculty.

What it means for you Our view

This is Anthropic's own account of its arrangements. Publication without a veto is the part to watch: whether METR's reports appear in full, and what is redacted, will show how independent the arrangement is in practice. The partnership with Accenture and Faculty is a plan Anthropic says it is working toward, not a signed agreement, and the tiers of access are still in development. If you rely on a vendor's safety assurances when you buy, ask which outside evaluators have reviewed its reports, whether they can publish without the vendor's approval, and what the vendor is allowed to redact.

Anthropic's Code Review leaves preview for Team and Enterprise customers

  • Anthropic says Code Review is out of research preview and available to Claude Team and Enterprise organizations.
  • Anthropic says most reviews now finish in 6 to 10 minutes, about 3x faster than the roughly 20 minutes during the preview.
  • Eligible Claude Enterprise organizations can claim at least $10,000 in Code Review credits by January 15, 2027, and the credits expire 30 days after they are claimed, Anthropic says.

Anthropic's Code Review is out of research preview and available to Claude Team and Enterprise organizations, according to Anthropic's post of 15 October 2026. It reviews new pull requests automatically once an admin has enabled it in Claude Code settings, installed the GitHub App and selected repositories. Anthropic says most reviews now take 6 to 10 minutes, down from roughly 20 in the preview. Admins choose Quick, Standard (the default) or Deep review for each repository. Eligible Claude Enterprise organizations can claim at least $10,000 in Code Review credits by 15 January 2027, and the credits expire 30 days after they are claimed.

What it means for you Our view

The review time is Anthropic's figure for most reviews, not a measurement of every pull request, so check it against your own repositories. Admins enable Code Review in Claude Code settings, install the GitHub App and choose repositories, so a trial can start on one repository without a wider rollout. Quick, Standard (the default) or Deep can be set for each repository, which lets you compare depth and results on real pull requests. Enterprise customers have a deadline: the credits must be claimed by January 15, 2027 and expire 30 days after claiming, so settle on a pilot before you claim them. Ask your admin whether your organization is eligible.
