Meta releases Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full for developers and subscribers

  • Meta announced Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full on 12 October 2026 and calls them its most capable models to date.
  • Meta says Muse Wonder is available through the Meta Model API and Muse Code, and Muse Wonder Full to Muse Code subscribers.
  • Meta's research blog says the series achieves state-of-the-art results across key benchmarks, naming Harvey's Legal Agent Benchmark, FocusBench and SWE-Marathon.

Meta announced two models, Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, on 12 October 2026. Meta calls them its most capable models to date, built for personal and professional agentic tasks.

Muse Wonder is available to developers and builders through the Meta Model API and Muse Code. Muse Wonder Full is available to Muse Code subscribers. Meta says Muse Wonder will soon power experiences in Muse and will roll out first to subscribers.

Meta says the models have two features, Active Memory, which carries what matters across conversations, and Active Focus, which keeps working toward a goal when a task gets hard. Meta's research blog says the series achieves state-of-the-art results across key benchmarks for personal and professional agents, memory and coding, and names Harvey's Legal Agent Benchmark, FocusBench and SWE-Marathon. Meta says a full report with additional safety evaluations will be available soon.

What it means for you Our view

The state-of-the-art statement is Meta's own, about Meta's own evaluation, and the claims we checked carry no scores, so there is nothing yet to compare with other models. Meta says a full report with additional safety evaluations will be available soon; it is not published. Active Memory and Active Focus are Meta's descriptions of its features. If you build agents, try Muse Wonder through the Meta Model API on one of your own long tasks, and wait for the report before relying on the benchmark names.

Anthropic says new safeguards cut distillers' extraction of reasoning tokens

Anthropic's 12 October post describes preserved thinking, a two-stage classifier and charging for some blocked requests, and says its own estimate shows far less extraction.

Anthropic says new safeguards cut distillers' extraction of reasoning tokens

  • Anthropic says that, by its own estimate on its own platform, extraction of reasoning tokens by distillers is consistently 10 to 100 times lower after the classifier.
  • Anthropic says preserved thinking stops accounts created on or after 31 August 2026 from editing Claude's prior context, and Sonnet 5.5 reasoning transcripts go only to the requesting organisation.
  • Anthropic says its two-stage classifier has a false positive rate under 0.1%; since 24 September it has resumed charging for blocked requests in areas where the rate is that low.

Anthropic published a post on 12 October 2026 on how it defends against distillation attacks, which it describes as covert, industrial-scale campaigns to extract the capabilities of one model and replicate them in another, without the authorisation of the original model's developers. By Anthropic's own estimate on its own platform, since it introduced the classifier, the number of reasoning tokens extracted by distillers is consistently 10 to 100 times lower than it was before.

The post describes three kinds of defence. The first is preserved thinking, which stops new API accounts created on or after 31 August 2026 from editing Claude's prior context. Starting with Claude Sonnet 5.5, reasoning transcripts are accessible only to the organisation whose request produced them. The second is a two-stage classifier, which Anthropic says has a false positive rate under 0.1% and which runs on the most capable generally available models. The third is stricter limits and bans for persistent distillers; Anthropic says that since 24 September it has resumed charging for requests that its safeguards block before Claude responds, in the specific areas, including distillation, where they have a false positive rate under 0.1%.

Anthropic says it has banned tens of thousands of accounts associated with distillation, often in under two hours after a campaign starts. In Anthropic's own test, a pretrained Claude model trained on full reasoning transcripts from Claude Opus 4.8 reached 80.4% on SWE-bench Verified, against 71.8% for one trained on summarised transcripts. It says preserved thinking has required some developers to update their integrations, and expects distillation to remain a cat-and-mouse game.

What it means for you Our view

The 10 to 100 times figure is Anthropic's own estimate on its own platform, tied to the classifier, so it says nothing about extraction elsewhere. Charging for blocked requests applies only in areas where the false positive rate is under 0.1%, and Anthropic says some developers had to update their integrations. The SWE-bench comparison in the post is Anthropic's own test on Claude Opus 4.8 transcripts; it does not measure what the new safeguards achieve. Anthropic expects a cat-and-mouse game. If you build on Claude, check whether your integration edits prior context and whether blocked requests now appear on your bill.

UK minister says AI Security Institute is evaluating latest models

  • Kanishka Narayan, the UK's Minister for Artificial Intelligence, gave the speech at Base One, Imperial College London, on 12 October 2026.
  • He said AI scientists at the AI Security Institute are now conducting rigorous evaluations of the latest generation of models, including Gemini 4 Argon.
  • He said the government has worked with the US government and the labs to retain the Institute's access to the most powerful models before release; the speech names no lab.

Kanishka Narayan, the UK's Minister for Artificial Intelligence, gave a speech at Base One, Imperial College London, on 12 October 2026. He said scientists at the UK's AI Security Institute are now conducting rigorous evaluations of the latest generation of models, including Gemini 4 Argon, to identify risks early.

Narayan said the government has been working closely with the US government and the labs to retain access for the Institute to the most powerful AI models before they are released. A government news release of the same day says the Institute's evaluations follow work with leading AI developers and the US Government.

What it means for you Our view

The speech names only Gemini 4 Argon. It does not say whether that model is released or which other models are being evaluated. Narayan speaks of retaining access, so the arrangement existed already, and the speech names no lab and sets out no terms. This confirms ongoing government testing before release in the UK and little more. If you buy models for work, ask your vendor whether its frontier models go through government pre-release evaluation and what you will be told of the outcome.

Research How distillation works and when it becomes an attack Distillation trains a less capable model on a stronger one's outputs; Anthropic calls it an attack when done covertly, at industrial scale, without the original developer's authorisation.
